After Hurricane Katrina
Flooding
Hurricane Katrina damaged more than just structures in New Orleans; it damaged the whole US. When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the whole world was affected. The major port that supplies much of the US via the Mississippi River, the Port of New Orleans, was put out of action. The hurricane impact also affected the tourism, which brings millions of dollars to the state and city. With the port being out of commission, import and export also took a hit. New Orleans Port is a vital part in importing and exporting of goods to the rest of the world. Importance of New Orleans

Tourism
Tourists
New Orleans is known for its wild parties and the extravagant festival Mardi Gras. After Katrina hit, tourism was greatly affected. People were unable to visit this proud city for months even years after the hurricane. Because of the hurricane, millions of dollars that would have normally be revenue for the city, was gone just like much of the homes in and around the city. Tourism took a huge hit. Hotels destroyed, business lost to the flood waters, restaurants too among the many causalities of the storm, all had been impacted by the storm. Only recently as the tourism start to bounce back.

Rebuilding New Orleans
The storm brought new life into the city. Where once were flooded streets and destroyed buildings, now have fresh new businesses and homes. The city has bounced back from almost extinction. Many people who came to help after the storm stayed in New Orleans and calls it home. It has been almost 13 years since the massive storm rocked the Big Easy but New Orleans showed the world that when you get knocked down, you get back up. The storm caused great devastation but it also created new life into the city, new love for a proud city. It brought the community together to get back on its feet. Today New Orleans still shows the scars of the massive storm, but it also is showing prosperity through its new lease on life.
